COLLEge CHAPTER president roles and responsibilities

1. Watch the introduction video

2. If you haven’t already, register as a participant

3. Sign up for our College Chapter President Remind group

 
 

4. Check your email regularly

5. Meet weekly, in addition to your chapter meeting, with your co-president to create lesson plans (see our sample lesson plans to use the first few weeks and then as a guide moving forward).

6. Schedule and complete mentor training for all mentors in your chapter. Click on the “For Teachers” link at the bottom of this page to access student training and all other teacher documents. If you need the password, email dorean@unitedsound.org.

7. At your first chapter meeting:

  • Find out the birthdays of all New Musicians. Happy Birthday is in all method books - make a big deal out of playing and celebrating each New Musician’s birthday!

  • (Optional) - Have everyone that wants to sign up for our United Sound Participant Remind group. Each month, there will be a chance to win some cool United Sound swag for completing a survey/task/etc. If there are those that aren’t able to sign up, others can help them complete the survey/task each month. 8. Meet monthly online with other college chapter presidents around the country - meetings last about 45 minutes.

2023-24 Meeting dates: 9/10/23, 10/8/23, 11/5/23, 12/3/23, 2/4/24, 3/10/24, 4/14/24, 5/5/24 (optional)

Meeting time: 7:00 pm Eastern (4:00 pm Pacific; 5:00 pm Mountain; 6:00 pm Central)

Attendance at the meeting is really critical because we give out new information and it also gives presidents a chance to hear what other chapters around the country are doing.

The online meeting link will be sent to chapter presidents a few days prior to the meeting.  Meetings will be recorded and will be available to view about 1 week after the meeting for those that aren’t able to attend. Both presidents should attend the meeting. Attendance will be taken, please let us know if there is an unavoidable conflict.

Following the meeting, communicate the information to your chapter and faculty advisor.

9. Complete Rehearsal Feedback Form MONTHLY and Performance Assessment after EACH performance

We are currently working on creating a library of New Musician parts for performed pieces. Once your mentors have written their New Musician parts for the performance piece, please email us either a pdf or image file of each part. Just make sure that you note the instrument and name of the performance piece somewhere on each page. Email to: dorean@unitedsound.org.

Each chapter that submits New Musician parts will have a chance to win a really cool prize!

Presidents’ meeting videos, agendas, and handouts

Missed a meeting? (Or maybe your chapter didn’t start at the beginning of the year?) Presidents are required to participate in ALL Presidents’ Meetings, but if you have to miss one, you can catch up here! Don’t worry, the part you are required to watch is only 15 minutes! Videos, agendas, and any handouts are typically posted within 1 week of the meeting. Once you watch the first 15 minutes, fill out the form on the page to get credit for “attending”.
